Presentation Guidelines

ORAL PRESENTATIONS

DURATION
Invited Talks: 25 minutes (20 minutes of presentation+5 minutes for discussion)
Contributed Talks: 15 minutes (12
minutes of presentation+3 minutes for discussion)

AUDIOVISUAL EQUIPMENT
We recommend the use of PowerPoint slides for presentation on a LCD video projector.

The conference rooms will be equipped with a laptop, an LCD video projector and a microphone. You may also bring your own laptop.

Requests for any other equipment must be sent by e-mail 1 month before the conference date to Helge Heinrich or Kevin Coffey.

Please bring your presentations on a USB thumb drive (PREFERRED) or a CD-ROM . If you choose to use your own laptop computer, we recommend that you bring the presentation in a USB thumb drive or a CD-ROM as backup.

Uploading of the presentation files will be done before the sessions start and during the coffee and lunch breaks. Please make sure that you contact your Session Chair to upload your presentation. We recommend that speakers be at their session at least 10 minutes before it begins.

 

POSTER PRESENTATIONS AND STUDENT AWARDS

POSTER DISPLAY AND SESSIONS
The poster session with reception will be held in conjunction with the equipment exhibit on Monday, March 8 from 4.30-7.00 p.m. A student poster competition for graduate and undergraduate students will be included in the poster session.

General Poster Set Up: Monday, March 8, 2010: 8:00 a.m.-1 p.m.
Student Poster Set Up: Sunday, March 7, 2010, from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Poster Tear Down: Tuesday, March 8, 2010, at 1 p.m.
(Please note that any remaining posters will be discarded)

Three times are reserved for Student Poster Judging:
- Sunday, March 7, 2010: 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
- Monday, March 8, 2010: 8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.
- Monday, March 8, 2010: 4:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

Authors should be present near their poster board during these times for questions and discussion.

POSTER SIZE AND FORMAT
Poster presenters will be provided with a blank board and push pins at the conference site. The poster boards will be approximately 4’ by 8’ (landscape format) and will be labeled with the poster number and arranged in the order that the posters are listed in the program.

STUDENT AWARDS
Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the graduate competition in the following categories:
- Materials Characterization
- Materials Processing
- Computational and Experimental Materials Science

First, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the undergraduate competition will also receive monetary awards. Honorary mentions will also be given to students from both competitions. One-year student membership in AVS or FSM will be given to all poster winners.
